About Me

Welcome to Korky's Korner!

My love affair with the horse began as a teenager.  I was very fortunate to have been allowed to exercise Detroit police horses while they were on respite outside of the city.  For a horse crazy teen, these were some of my fondest memories of riding; perfectly trained horses that knew their job.  But teen years passed and I married and began a family.

Horse crazy girls seem to run in the family...an inherited gene from my beloved father.  All three of my daughters inherited the love of the horse, and all three helped to raise and train our Morgan Horses.  My oldest daughter, Georgia, showed dressage and combined training.  She still owns horses and rides dressage, but makes a living owning a dog training facility in TX.  Middle daughter, Kathi, did considerable successful showing both open and class A, but is now too busy raising four children to have the time to enjoy horses...maybe when she retires.  Youngest daughter, Kelly, showed Quarter Horses and one of our Morgans.  Hopefully, she too will raise another horse crazy girl, as my third granddaughter and Kelly's first child, Sydney was born in 2005.

I have been involved in the raising, training, breeding, and showing of Morgan and Lippitt Morgans for over 25 years.  I have been an instructor for Girl Scouts, 4H, mentally and physically impaired adults and children, open show judge, editor of my breed newsletter, volunteered for various duties to promote the Lippitt Morgan, designed websites, specialized in teaching jumping, and just plain loved the Lippitt.  But age and physical ability has taken it's toll, and I was forced to disperse the last of my Lippitt mares in the spring of 2003.

I am continuing my growth as a Healing Touch practitioner for dogs and horses.  This is proving to be a very rewarding venture and one in which I can utilize my Healing Touch experience.  If you are interested in Healing Touch for Animals, please contact me to arrange a visit for your dog or horse.  In addition, now that I have "FINALLY" retired, I am expanding my volunteer visits at local hospitals with my trusty therapy dog, Kali  (inducted into the 2005 Florida Animal Hall of Fame for her outstanding work as a therapy dog).   I also started quilting lessons and have just completed my first quilt.

BTW, I got my nickname, Korky, years ago while teaching riding for the Girl Scout program.  The girls were encouraged to pick a nickname they felt comfortable with (instead of using the formal address of Mrs. So-and-so).  It didn't dawn on me until months later that the feistiest pony in our program was also named Corky.  Could I possibly have been named after that 'difficult' pony?  Nah...

I am very proud of my Irish heritage and hope to visit the Emerald Isle some day.

May you heart be warm and happy, with the lilt of Irish laughter;

Every day in every way, forever and ever after.

Comments and questions are always welcome!
Forever, the horse crazy girl!!
